The Queen of Caricature, Marlo Meekins is back! After several months of hiatus, her blog is active again and regularly updated. If you don't know who Marlo Meekins is, shame on you! Check out her blog , she's one of the most talented young cartoonists and caricaturists of the recent years. Her work is very loose and spontaneous but also at the same time technically perfect, with amazing line quality and sense of design.
This drawing is of course not BY Marlo Meekins. It is my attempt to make a caricature OF Marlo Meekins.

HammersonLand is 1 year and 3 1/2 days old!
I'm not too keen on various anniversaries and I almost missed that one. So, this particular blot in the blogosphere is more than one year old. Hooray! Let's celebrate it with the funny guy.

Report from MaFest - part 2
Last update: 14.06.2007.
Here's the second round of the caricatures of my colleagues, Croatian comics artists. I met all these people last month at MaFest comics festival, and first part of my report with caricatures can be seen HERE . Also, I will add the respective links to the blogs of these persons (in case they have one) after I complete this second batch of drawings.
Well, what we got here... she's among other things a comics artist, a painter, a conceptual artist, and a performance artist. She's been everything except a cartoon character, so I turned her into one :-) Only the limited amount of people would be able to understand the arcane symbolism of this picture. Everybody else - just enjoy the funny drawing :-)
Here's another one, and it wasn't very easy to do because I had only one blury photo of this guy, so it was mostly drawn from the memory. I'm not satisfied with this drawing, it looks too stiff (especially compared to the drawing above), but I included it because this guy is really good artist and shouldn't be missed in this little retrospective.
The next picture will be something special... I'll take three days of preparation to do it, and it's going to be a dangerous and death-defying stunt. I will draw a caricature of a person that's probably the hardest one to draw, at least to me. I promised him a caricature last August, yet for who knows what reason, I was never able to make a good picture of that guy. I'll try to make the definitive one... and it will probably look like a crap anyway. Wish me luck...
UPDATE: And, here it is! It was an epic battle that lasted 90 minutes and left me completely exhausted. I hope the final result is worth the effort.
And I had just little bit more strength left to do a quickie 5-minute sketch of the same guy, with less radical stylization and closer to the real life. In this sketch, he's clearly expressing horror and disgust at the content of HammersonBlog :-)

Jack & Meg
The White Stripes are one of the rare contemporary bands that I care about. Their latest album "Icky Thump" is going to be released in ten days, and I've been listening to an advance copy since Thursday. Well, what to say... it's another killer album for Jack & Meg! Perhaps it's not so immediately likeable on the first encounter, in comparison to "Elephant" or "De Stijl", but it's a really strong work that needs several listens in order to be fully appreciated.
Now, here's the obligatory caricature... and I'm not quite satisfied with one half of it. Meg was very easy, and I just cleaned-up and inked the first pencil sketch attempt that originally took barely 30 seconds to complete. On the other hand, Jack White is a tough SOB to draw and I spent lot of time on him, without getting any acceptable result. The fact that he looks different on every photo isn't very helpful either. Here's the revised version, compared to one I put two days ago. Jack still looks far from perfect, and I might make some further changes later (especially with hair and head shape).

Hammerson will destroy your pretty face!
I was hired seven days ago to draw a large format caricature that will serve as a wedding present. Two guys (the best men on tomorrow's wedding) ordered the picture for their friend, and this is the result. It's a photo, because the drawing couldn't be properly scanned due to the size. The quality of photo is not great and lot of subtle details and shadings are gone, but you'll get the idea. The original picture also contains text and some additional drawings in the speech bubble, not present in this photo.
Everybody depicted seems to be very happy with the picture, and nobody tried to physically attack me because of the caricature treatment. The picture turned out fine, though I can find plenty of mistakes and details that bother me (as usual).
So, does anybody else wants their faces or the faces of their dearest, mutilated and destroyed on paper? Do you want an exclusive present for weddings, birthdays, funerals, and other happy occasions? If so, then contact me by e-mail to arrange all the details and conditions. You won't be sorrry...

Sir Paul
Well, all that Beatle talk in the previous post has made me think about something curious: despite the fact that I've been a Fab Four fan since the earliest childhood, I've never made a Beatles caricature. Yesterday I tried some quick sketches with various degrees of success, so expect at least one or two Beatles caricatures in some near future. For now, here's only Sir Paul, wearing his Sgt.Pepper moustache. Not too bad for the first attempt. It kinda looks like him, although it reminds me of some ungodly hybrid between Clark Gable and Nosferatu.
And here's my all time favorite Beatles photo. Have a nice week-end, folks!
